MODERN-DAY NEGROS (An Essay, Descriptive)

People in the world have differences with each other – races, color, culture, traditions – just to name a few. As to what the picture is showing, the negro youth are one of the many races in the world that has their own distinctive qualities that whenever you see them even for the first time, you can easily identify that they are such one. Negros' skins are black yet they are smooth. As to what the picture shows, negro children are happy. They can still manage to put smiles on their faces in spite of many problems they are facing in their lives. They also have time to play. They are sitting on an enormous tree. We all know that the continent where they are living in is facing many different turmoils that its people are suffering. Another distinctive quality that the negro children in the picture have is that, they have these noses that are flat.

We are all have the rights to develop the different aspects of our lives. People have changed as time goes by. One very good example is that of the Negros. For me, the youth shown in the picture are considered as the modern-day Negros. How did I say this? I noticed that they are well-dressed. Even though the clothes they are wearing are obviously old and ragged, they can still manage to wear them properly unlike the ancient Negros who can't have any kinds of clothing to help them protect their bodies from the heat of the sun and from the coldness of the weather.

Whatever differences we have from other people in our environment, let us not forget to be thankful of these qualities that our Creator gave us. Never be insecure of the people around you. Be yourself always and never pretend to be another person.

MY SHOOTING STAR (A Poem)

It’s been so long when we first met
At first, I thought you’ll never be my friend
You seemed to me
Like a star that can’t be reach.

But as time went by
As we knew each other so deeply
I realized that you are a shooting star
That God sent in Earth to be one of my loved ones.

We’ve been friends
Sharing the memories we had
Laughing together as one
As if it’s the last that we ever had.

We’ve been together
Through our ups and downs
I was with you
And you’re always on my side.

In times of trouble
You held me up
In times of sorrow
You hugged me hard.

In times of weakness
You were my strength
In times of hardships
You give me courage.

Having a friend like you
Is such a wonderful way
God had shown me
His own grandeur.

You are my sun
That brightens up my life
You are my moon
That brings light in the dark.

I can’t imagine
Life without you
My life might like be
As dark as a crow.

No one can ever stop me
From loving you so dearly
For you are my little sister
That I’ll protect from all kinds of evil.

When times get rough
And you feel like giving up
Always put in your mind
These sweet loving words I’ll promise you:

People may come
People may go
But I assure you
I am always here for you!

GO! EXPRESS YOURSELF

“No law shall be passed abridging the freedom of speech, of expression, or of the press, or the right of the people peaceably to assemble and petition the government for redress of grievances.”

-         Article III, Section 4, 1987 Philippine Constitution

Freedom of speech and of expression – the most famous right of every person not only here in the Philippines but in the entire world is given for us to have our right to express our thoughts and ideas. Every people may give his opinion to different kinds of issues around him. No one has the right to stop a person from expressing his points of views.

But, every right has its own limitations. So does the freedom of speech and expression. How will we consider if a person goes “beyond the line” with his freedom of speech and of expression?

For these past few days, I’d encountered different people with different points of views regarding the issue about their freedom of speech and most especially their freedom of expression.

For me, a person abuses his freedom of speech and of expression because of these reasons:

  1. A person doesn’t think of the possible outcome of the idea that he will express. We must be responsible enough of everything that will come out of our mouth.
  2.  A person is insensitive of others’ feelings. We must be sensitive to others’ feelings. Remember, words, sometimes, are the strongest weapons to hurt someone’s emotion. We could easily forget the physical pain that others gave us rather than the pain they gave us verbally.
  3. A person has a great level of self-pride. People with great levels of self-pride sometimes are those who believe in themselves as superiors over other kinds of people. By this, they could easily step off someone’s integrity.

Sometimes, people misinterpret what we say or express. So, we must think first before spitting out what’s on our mind. I am just trying to point out that we have our different levels of understanding. Not all of us have the same interpretations to different issues around us. We don’t have the same Intelligence Quotient level or I.Q. level with each other. For us to avoid arguing with others, we must start thinking first the possible outcome of the words that might come out of our mouth. If you think that others will misinterpret what you will say, it’s better if you will not tell it anymore and just keep it in yourself.

The Constitution provides us the freedom of speech and of expression. We are free to use it by the way we want it. But still, I reiterate that every right has its own limitations. So better think first before you express what is on our mind.
